Counting Money and Giving Change

I am learning to recognise the value of NZ coins to add, total and give change.

I find money a bit tricky.  I could count the ten cents.  The change is hard.

Larissa, you counted in tens really well.  You knew that two tens made a twenty cent too.
Practise working out the difference between two amounts to improve your skills.

Trying New Experiences

I enjoyed our Inquiry showcase and looking how things have changed at the Howick Historical Village.

Predicting, making inferences and exploring vocabulary

I am learning to predict, make inferences and exploring vocabulary.

The hard part was to think about the words like describing and the verbs.  I nearly forgot what alliteration was.  I am still finding it hard to find the clues. I need people to talk to and help me.  Larissa  15.11.16
This was a tricky task to challenge you to look carefully at what you read.  I agree, keep working with your group to discuss meanings and find clues when the answer to a question isn't fully clear.  Mrs Templeton  15.11.16

Kiwi Dog - Comprehension Questions

I have been learning to show my understanding of a text by answering questions about what I have read at Level 20-21

I found it hard to spell some of the words.  It was easy to read the book.  It was a bit tricky to find the answers to the questions.

A good try Larissa but make sure you find the words you need from the text and spell them correctly.  You use full sentences but be careful to record all the important information to answer the questions.   Mrs Templeton

Describing a Storm

I am learning to describe a storm using my senses.

To be successful, I will choose interesting words to describe what I can see, hear and feel during a storm.

Larissa, I like the way you revisited your work to add interesting words.  Its a great idea to spend time planning your idea, its something that 'good writers' do!

Visual Art: Geometric Shape Art

I have been learning to observe and compare the works of other artists and to create my own art work using geometric shapes.

To be successful I needed to look at the works of Klee, Matisse and Kandinsky (right) and cut a range of shapes in different sizes and place them carefully to create my own masterpiece. (left)

Alliterated Sentences

Alliteration

I am learning to write alliterated sentences.

Larissa likes little limes.

"First I wrote all the words that start with the 'l' sound, then I wrote a sentence. It was very tricky, but it was fun."

Adding Numbers

Different Numbers, Same Amount

I have been learning that numbers an look different but still equal the same amount.

“Mine is different because it has 2 in the top and 6 in the bottom.  I still have 8.”

My family is from Scotland and South Africa.  There are 3 people in my family.  We like to ride our bikes.  My Oupa looks like Santa.

In writing I am writing about my family.  We have been learning to use capital letters and full stops in the right places.

I enjoyed writing about my family but I found it a bit tricky to remember to use capital letters in the right place.
